Many people bash the newly elected Indonesia Minister of Education, Nadiem Makarim the founder of Go-jek. Why do people really bash Nadiem so hard? Starting from the man got no experience in regards to Indonesia education, up until when he made a statement saying that he understands how the future of Indonesia education system can workout, whilst people kept bashing him because his CV doesn’t say so. Give the man some break, he has to make a statement as a Minister of Education about what he’s planning to do, the same thing as Mr. Prabowo did to the press when he said he’s gonna learn the system that already established within the Defence Ministry. After all, Nadiem is the Minister, what do you expect him to do when the press started addressing questions? Nothing? I bet you would be bashing him a lot harder. Despite his background that considered as 'non-educational' background, and of all the negative comments addressed to him, I personally have a good feeling about him being chosen as the Minister of Education.
First of all, he’s a man of innovation. With his brilliant vision, his idea in enhancing the alternative transportation (ojek) where you can order a ride by just tapping your finger is a Crazy Level A kind of innovation for Indonesia. Go-jek established, and now you can easily fill your empty tummy effortlessly, get your kinds of stuff that your brain unintentionally forgot to bring to work or school, helped your lazy ass to clean your house, and many more.
Second, the irrelevant background in his CV as a minister of education doesn’t necessarily make him ineligible to make changes and solving problems in education. I don’t even need to conduct some intellectual research to address that all of us who have the luxury of obtaining education must have been complaining about many things in education and hypothetically start to thinking some scenarios to improve your current education condition. Were your teachers and upper-ranking officials in ministerial education have expertise? CV-wise yeah maybe. Did it make them understand your problems and solved them? not necessarily (?) This is a concrete example of how an unwise policy made can really affect lives.
Educational background or even an expert on education doesn’t even guarantee that they can solve problems in education. At least Indonesia education history recorded that. Aside from that, holistically, there are many educational aspects to be considered for children which nowadays the system has not really put attention to. Even if it existed, it has not really given any significant effect. Lastly, he is young. I believe with that span of age, he has a better opportunity to understand the condition experienced by the youth as students in Indonesia. Age is an important factor, not a defective factor, so don’t try to make an argument about one.
In the end, it’s still your right to express whether you want to support him or not. Whether you want to be the pro side or the opposite. But I believe as an Indonesian we should and always give actions which can contribute to the welfare and betterment of our country.
